The old mortar-bedded ridge had cracked and the tiles were covered in moss. We stripped the slope back to the battens, laid new breathable felt and battens, re-tiled it and finished the top with a dry ridge system, so there is no mortar left to crack and let water in.
We opened up the roof, fitted a new Velux with the proper flashing kit, re-boarded the ceiling and insulated between the rafters before finishing the room inside. It is lighter, warmer and watertight.
The old felt on these flat garage roofs was worn out. We stripped it, repaired the decking where needed and fitted a new EPDM rubber roof. It goes down in one piece, with far fewer seams for water to find.
The mortar between the bricks on these steps had worn away, leaving them loose and uneven. We raked out and repointed them to make them safe and give the steps a new lease of life.
